Our expedition begins when you submit your work in progress, and I return to you a report that highlights the overall strengths and weaknesses of your project. This service is the fundamental “first pass”, where every author who works with me must begin. We’ll be learning about one another to ensure that we’ll have a successful partnership moving forward.
Developmental Edit
Sometimes a manuscript needs more attention for your story to feel fully developed; think of it as taking the time to plan your itinerary. With a Developmental Edit to refine the plot, characters, and themes, you’re deciding where you’re going and what you will be doing once you get there. You want to make sure your trip will be captivating by choosing a destination or two to create the core of your schedule; this will give you a firm basis to build a route and a timeline for the journey.
Line Edit
As your publication date approaches, your trip draws closer! A Line Edit is how you prepare for the trip and determine the flow of your itinerary. Revising your writing on a sentence level will ensure that you’re giving yourself enough time and space to fully enjoy each attraction. The best schedules keep the momentum building for a spectacular finish, like an author plotting their story with tension and tight pacing; the language you use to tell your story should be concise and compelling to keep your readers enticed to come along for the ride.
Copy Edit
Your journey approaches! The Copy Edit is a focused final pass to catch typos in the form of missing passports and incorrect booking dates. I’ll be fixing grammar, spelling, punctuation, and consistency to make sure nothing goes wrong when it’s go-time. You bring your passport and luggage full of toiletries, and I’ll bring the fine-toothed comb. By the end of this editing stage, you’ll be ready to begin your spellbinding “trip”: publishing your fully-edited manuscript as a novel!
